Big Sean has been relatively quiet and pretty busy working on his third studio album but September seemed to be starting off as a good month for the G.O.O.D. Music artist as he signed a new management deal with Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation and also released a brand-new Adidas sneaker. He also indulged fans with the release of not one but four new singles, with top-notch production in one day! The most popular track of the four is titled “I Don’t F*** With You (IDFWU)” Taking a tip from Taylor Swift, queen of post-breakup anthems, the rapper makes his own breakup anthem. The song samples the D.J. Rogers 1976 record “Say You Love Me, One More Time.” DJ Mustard, DJ Dahi and Kanye West produced the beat while E-40 assisted the track and in true Yeezy style the Detroit rapper rants about his ex as well as their rocky relationship. With lyrics like “I see you got a new man, I see you taking a pic” and the most quoted line “…I just dodged a bullet from a crazy b****.” Its clear that Sean sounds relieved to be done with his past relationship and happy to be moving on as he refers to his new relationship with singer Ariana Grande in the third verse. The break up focused song is easily relatable and the fiery hook is catchy enough that you’ll find yourself rapping along.

Last year in October, Sean announced his engagement to Glee star Naya Rivera. The couple seemed happy but their engagement was short lived before Big Sean’s rep released a statement that Sean was calling off the wedding only six months later only for Naya to shock everyone by marrying Ryan Dorsey three months later on July 19th, the date that was originally planned to be her and Sean’s wedding date.

But is “IDFWU” really about Sean’s ex-fiancé? Sean claims in a recent interview that he wrote and recorded the song back in February but after everything happened he changed a couple of words and added a new verse. So ultimately it was not written about Naya but it was released with interesting timing, only a few months after Rivera impulsively married her best friend. In a Billboard interview Big Sean stated that after calling off his engagement he has really been in “beast mode” and trying to be bold and also have fun with his career. Sean’s song has not only become a breakup anthem but has started a social media craze that Sean has capitalized on. This week Big Sean released the #IDFWU photo editor that allows you to upload a picture, blur someone’s face, add the #IDFWU hash tag and share it on social media. With all the trends Sean has started from one song I can only imagine what he has in store with other singles from his album as well as his album as a whole.
