On October 25, Canadian rapper, songwriter and actor, Drake, unleashed not one, not two, but three songs (“How Bout Now”, “6 God”, “Heat of the Moment”). Drake took to Twitter this past weekend, “This wasn’t an EP. Just 3 songs that I knew some hackers had. But enjoy! Back to this album.” Drake’s fourth studio album “Views from the 6” is set to hit stores in spring 2015; there is no word on whether these three songs will appear on the upcoming album.
Although Drake fans will have to endure an entire winter without any new music as Mr.OVOXO continues to work on “Views from the 6”, Drake doesn’t disappoint with the recently released songs that have been setting social media ablaze for the past few days. “6 God” sports an up tempo beat very similar to the summer banger “0 to 100”. Drake summons his alter ego and is subliminally letting the rest of the rap game know that he has, is, and will continue to run Toronto (6 refers to Toronto’s area codes 416,647). “How Bout Now” samples “My Heart Belongs to U” by Jodeci (R&B group popular in the 1990s). Drake reflects on how his ex-girlfriend underappreciated all the little things he did for her while they were together (typical Drizzy). Towards the conclusion of the song, Drake has the ‘look at me now’ attitude, as if the girl that once had his heart is missing out on all his success.
The “Light Skin Keith Sweat” appears on the last of the 3 released songs, “Heat of the Moment”. This ballad samples “Her Way” by PARTYNEXTDOOR (Canadian singer). Drake has been asked the question “Who are you gonna be when this is all over?” and he responds “I don’t wanna think about that right now.” It’s obvious that he isn’t concerned with the future but he’s living in the now – in the heat of the moment. If Drake keeps generating music of this quality, which I’m sure he will, he will undoubtedly have spring 2015 poppin’.
